Eat several times a day

More and more weight loss experts are realizing the benefits of eating several small meals a day rather than three large ones. Five or six small meals is often the recommended amount if you desire quick weight loss. Too many people think that by skipping meals they will speed up their weight loss. Unfortunately the most common meal that people skip is breakfast, which is a bad thing because it is the most important meal.

Food digestion requires energy. By eating more frequently you keep your metabolism revved up and burn more calories overall. When you skip meals you keep your metabolism more sluggish. Breakfast jump starts your metabolism in the morning, so you definitely don’t want to miss that meal if quick weight loss is your goal.

Additionally, by eating several smaller meals a day you are less inclined to get really hungry. Many people give up on their diet too soon because they just get too hungry. Frequent small meals with a small amount of protein in each one will help ward off hungry feelings and keep your blood sugar stable. If your blood sugar spikes and then drops rapidly, you are more prone to reach for a sugary snack to boost your energy. Keeping it elevated and stable throughout the day will make it easier for you to stick to your diet without cheating.

Drink lots of water

If you desire quick weight loss, it is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Not only will it assist your body with burning fat it will also help you to feel fuller. Additionally, water prevents dehydration, which can make you feel hungry even when you really aren’t.

If you drink ice water you will burn several more calories a day. This is because your body needs to warm the ice water up once it is in your system. Raising the temperature uses energy, which means more calories are being burned each day.

Cut back on the sugar

Not only does sugar contain a high number of empty calories, eating sugary foods actually stimulates your appetite. You may notice that whenever you eat sweets, you find yourself wanting to consume more food. This will set you up for weight gain and hinder any chances of quick weight loss.

Increase the fiber in your diet

Most of us don’t get enough fiber in our diets, but it is essential to good health as well as quick weight loss. Consuming foods high in fiber will help you feel fuller more quickly, and thus you will eat less overall. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are all high in fiber.

If quick weight loss is your goal, follow the tips above to help make the most of any diet you are on. You don’t want to loose too much weight too quickly, as that is unhealthy and you will be much more likely to gain it back. Lose the weight a little more slowly and you will find that maintaining the loss will be much easier.

Reality TV programs are popping up everywhere. It started with "Survivor," but since then reality TV has really branched out. We have regular people (not actors) racing around the world and engaging in all kinds of activities in hopes of winning a million bucks. We have people courting and choosing mates. Reality TV seems limitless. It's no surprise that weight loss reality TV has made it into American living rooms and dens.

It's amazing, really. You see people who are grossly overweight set out to lose a lot of weight, and in a relatively short period of time. These "contestants" live in a vacuum that can't come anywhere close to emulating real people out there in the real world who are dieting and exercising in an effort to lose unwanted pounds.

The "contestants" (I don't know what else to call them.) are surrounded by doctors, dieticians, fitness instructors, and other professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Professionals are in charge of meal planning, portion control, and exercise regimes.

There have been reports that the TV audience isn't treated to what REALLY goes on behind the scenes, like vomiting, purging, and use of strong diet suppressants and diuretics. The networks, of course, deny these allegations vigorously.

My main objection to these reality weight loss television programs is that viewers can be "tricked" into believing that they can accomplish the same

amazing results at home. They can't. Those of us who live out here in the "real" world have families, jobs, relationships, and hundreds of other distractions. Nobody prepares our meals for us, and nobody controls portion sizes except us. We don't have a registered dietician on call. We don't have a personal trainer that we can depend upon at any hour of the day or night, either.

Things are a bit different out here in the real world, where diet and exercise programs are a lot harder to stick to.
