Body building equipment doesn’t have to be expensive. You can actually come across some great deals when you search out the types of machines that you want to enhance your workout. Check online and look in the classified ads of your local newspaper to find Nautilus machines as well as treadmills or stair step machines.

You should look for reliability in body building equipment before you buy. This is especially true if you are buying a machine with pulley systems. Look at the cords and see if they are strong and not frayed. If there is any sign of stress on the pulleys, don’t buy it.

Most newbies to the bodybuilding game think that a lot of very expensive bodybuilding equipment is necessary to get that ripped body. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The fact is that those machines are actually not as effective for building muscle mass as free-weight lifting. The machine stabilize the weights for you. With free weights, you are developing the stabilizing muscles.

There is some necessary equipment needed for building muscle mass. But that equipment does not include machines that cost several thousand dollars.

You'll need a power rack or some sort of spotting system. In a gym, you can have a partner work with you; but if you work alone, you will need a power rack in order to be able to safely lift heavy weights.

You need weights to lift. The best ones are the cast-iron Olympic style weights, but if you can't afford those, then the less expensive ones will certainly do the same job. No matter how much the weights cost, if you don't use them, they aren't any good.

Barbells are expensive, and handles work like mini-barbells. They're a bigger hassle than the individual dumbbell set, but they do the job just as well.

You need a weight bench of some kind. I have a friend who built his own because he couldn't afford to buy the one he wanted. It doesn't so much matter where you get as that you do get it. Look in the want ads. People are always selling them.

You need a jump rope. This is strictly for warmup purposes.

You need a stationary exercise bicycle. This is also for warmup purposes, but you must not start your weightlifting without warming up the muscles first, or

you are just asking for injury.

An exercise mat is also an essential. A little comfort can help you do those crunches.
