The Mental Side of Bodybuilding

You may see a really bulked up guy just rippling with muscles, and think he spends all of his time in the gym. You may think that there is nothing more to him than muscles and a nice smile. You are most likely wrong. There is an intense mental aspect to bodybuilding.

In fact, bodybuilders may be the most goal-oriented group of people in the world. They set goals specific goals and develop plans to reach those goals. They understand nutrition alsomore so than other people, with the exception of trained nutritionists. They understand the importance of rest, and know what to do to build the muscles that they want to build. There's more there than muscles.

In fact, there is a great deal more. You might think that bodybuilders have egos to match their large musclesand for the most part they do. They work hard to build their bodies, and they want to be recognized for it. Those egos are often hurt when they don't win competitions, but for the most part, they are very self-confident people who know what their achievements are, and can easily bounce back from a lost competition without a problem.

Bodybuilders are always striving to be better. For some, this creates a condition known as Bigorexia. The bodybuilder is huge, but feels very small. They never feel like they have accomplished their goal, because there is always a new goal. While this is a problem that many bodybuilders face, it isn't a problem that they all face. Again, most are fairly self-confident, and know very well the feeling of accomplishment.

Furthermore, bodybuilders come from all walks of life. They are doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other skilled professionals. In fact, some get so into bodybuilding that they leave their professions behind to become professional bodybuilders and trainers. So, the next time you look at a bodybuilder, realize that there is a great deal more there than just muscles and a nice smile. They are usually very intelligent people!

BONUS : The Role of Metabolism in Bodybuilding

Your body's metabolism is important in the bodybuilding process. Metabolism is the process of the body to deal with food. It converts food and other matter to energy, which is used by your body. This not only maintains the body, but it also aids in repairing damage and in healing injuries.

Metabolism is controlled by what you eat. If you are eating a lot of carbohydrates, those carbohydrates are absorbed by the body in one of several different forms: lactose, maltose, fructose, glycogen, or glucose. Of these, the only one that the body actually uses is glucose. If the carbohydrate becomes one of the other forms, it is reabsorbed by the body and enzymes work to break it down further so that it becomes glucose.

When this happens, the pancreas and liver go to work. They move glucose to muscle cells, and store it as glycogen. Glucose is also stored in the liver as glycogen, and if the muscles and liver are already full of glycogen, the rest of the glucose is then converted to fatty acid.

As you train, your body is better able to increase metabolism, which in turn burns more fat, faster. So, what this all means to you is that you must eat right, without overfilling your liver and pancreas with glycogen, while at the same time you train to increase metabolism so that your body deals with the food that you do eat in the right way.

As you can see, you aren't just what you eatyou are also what your body does with what you eat. When you eat right, and you train your body to use the fuel that you are giving it in the right way, your muscles will grow, and you will reduce fator prevent fatat the same time. In the grand scheme of things, it is all connected.
