Make Up For All Ages

Make-Up for All Ages

With aging skin, the application and selection of make-up should be more careful than with that of young skin. Below we have compiled a sample make-up regimen and a few tips on selecting a foundation that is right for your skin.

Since our skin gets dehydrated and less elastic as we age, it is important to begin your regimen with a deep action moisturizer. Apply a small amount evenly all over your face. Allow the lotion to absorb for five minutes before applying a primer and foundation.

A primer can be applied all over the skin to even out texture and reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles associated with aging. Because primers have a tendency to give the skin a dry appearance, make sure to use a hydrating lotion before applying it.

If you want to conceal complexion spots and wrinkles, choose a foundation that has medium to full coverage. These tend to be thicker than the average foundation, and are available as a mousse, liquid, or whipped texture.

If you are not looking after full coverage, you may want to try a product that simply evens out your skin tone. We recommend using a light-coverage foundation or a tinted moisturizer. If using a tinted moisturizer, select one with the components mentioned above and skip the moisturizing step altogether.

Light-reflecting foundations are effective at restoring the glow that is lost with age. Check the foundation on your pinkie finger before buying one to match the color and evaluate its quality.

Because regular foundations can wear the skin out, mineral makeup is also a great option. These are made of all-natural minerals that are not only safe on the skin but nourishing as well.

Mineral makeups can be found in many different tones. You can select from foundations, primers, blushes, eye shadows, and more. They 100 percent safe, easy to use, and moisture proof.

Follow with a little blush right over the cheekbones. For a natural look, use a tinted cacao butter stick to nourish and moisturize the lips. You can also use a colored lipstick if desired.

BONUS : Make-Up Throughout the Years

Did you know that in 1770 Britain passed a law stating that women who wore make-up to seduce a man into matrimony would be prosecuted as witches? And that any marriage with a woman wearing make-up would be declared invalid and null? Obviously the law has been questioned and changed in recent times.

Cosmetics have existed since ancient Greek times, when men would make their faces pale with the use of white colored powders. They would then add a glow using a reddish colored powder, now called rouge.

As is the case with the traditions of ancient empires, this custom was passed on by colonists and explorers throughout Europe and to the rest of the world.

Since the beginning of make-up in the civilized world, cosmetics always contained harmful chemicals and elements. Amongst these, lead was the main ingredient in make-up, which left behind conditions like complexion disfigurement, brain damage, metal poisoning, and many other casualties.

Also present in cosmetics back then was mercury, a highly toxic element responsible for miscarriages, birth defects, and other physiological complications associated with heavy metal poisoning.

Throughout the years, science has significantly improved, as well as our determination to protect ourselves from the elements of this highly toxic planet. Especially today, make-up has to meet health standards which enforce the use of non-toxic components. For those who wish not to put any synthetics on their skin, there are mineral products that are entirely safe (and even good) for the skin.

Make-up has been long used to conceal flaws such as discolorations, scars, or uneven complexion. As we age, the products we are recommended to use are often thicker in order to hide creases, spots, and wrinkles.

We will be discussing other types of make-up later on so that you can determine the best type for your skin and age.
