Bodybuilding for Vegetarians

You may think that if you are a vegetarian, you can't possibly participate in bodybuilding to the point where you reach competition status. You would be wrong. Many bodybuilders are vegetarians. This misconception comes from the fact that bodybuilders need protein, and protein is associated with meat. Fortunately for all vegetarians, meat is not the only source of protein. Let's dispel some vegetarian bodybuilding myths.

Myth #1: Vegetarians can't become bodybuilders because they don't get any protein.

This is absolutely false. Protein also comes from dairy products, grains, and beans. In fact, whey protein, which does not contain any animal by-products, is one of the most popular bodybuilding products on the market.

Myth #2: Bodybuilders need lots of nutrients that can only come from meat.

False again. Bodybuilders use supplements to make sure that they are getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals. In fact, the amount of vitamins and minerals needed by bodybuilders cannot possibly be obtained just from the food that they eat even if they do eat meat.

Myth #3: Vegetarians don't weigh enough to become bodybuilders.

Wrong again. Muscle has weight to it, and as muscle grows, a person weighs more even if they are a vegetarian.

Myth #4: Vegetarians don't have the energy to be bodybuilders, nor the strength.

Energy is not just derived by eating meat. Energy is derived from eating food no matter what that food is. As far as strength goes, strength is built by training, and it doesn't matter what you eat when it comes to training strength.

Myth #5: Vegetarians are not healthy.

Wrong. Vegetarians are typically more healthy than carnivores. They have "cleaner" diets. Vegetarians typically have lower instances of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even a lower threat of cancer.

You don't have to eat meat to be healthy or to be a bodybuilder. What you have to do is to make sure that you are getting the right amounts of vitamins and minerals, and that you are eating enough of the right foods. Of course, working out also plays a role!

BONUS : Bodybuilding for Women

While most people think of bodybuilding as a man's sport, there are numerous women who are quite successful in the sport as well. There are women who participate in bodybuilding simply to get in better shape, with well-defined muscles, and there are those who get involved for the purpose of competition.

The main problem that most female bodybuilders face is with supplements that contain high levels of testosterone, or products that cause the body to produce higher levels of testosterone. Such products cause women's voices to deepen, and also causes unwanted hair growth on the body, including the face.

Women can avoid these problems by only using supplemental products that are specifically designed for women. Also, if you fear bodybuilding because you do not want the body of a man, note that testosterone is what will cause this. So, by avoiding the products designed for men, you can safely lift weights and do bodybuilding exercises, which will give you that toned, hardbody look, without transforming your body to that of a man's.

Bodybuilding has many benefits for women. For example, lifting weights will actually help to prevent bone diseases, such as osteoporosis, which is common in women. Weightlifting also benefits women because it builds more lean muscle, which in turn enables her to burn more calories, even when she is resting.

Overall, women bodybuilders train the same way that male bodybuilders train. They require the same nutrition, although the amounts are typically smaller. They require supplements designed for the female body, a workout program that works for them, and of course, they require rest.

Just as there are competitions for male bodybuilders, there are numerous competitions for female bodybuilders as well. The most well known is Ms. Olympia, which is hosted each year.

If you want to get into female bodybuilding, try to find a female personal trainer. This isn't to say that a male trainer wouldn't do a good job, it is just that a female trainer will be better able to help another female, because she has a thorough understanding of the female body, and how it reacts to training.
