Wrinkles are probably the most well-known sign of aging. They generally start developing in our late twenties, and as we age we become more and more vulnerable to skin sagging, creasing, and wrinkling.

Wrinkling occurs mainly due to the changes associated with aging and our skin. Because skin renewal slows down as we get older, the number of cells that are sloughed off daily cannot be replaced. Something similar occurs in the dermis. As the skin cells are not replaced in a consistent manner, the dermis' cell organization is broken. Collagen, the protein used for skin flexibility and elasticity, is also less readily produced, diminishing the skin's ability to stretch and flex without being prone to breakage and creasing.

The epidermis or top-most layer exhibits not only the effects of the underlying layers of aging skin, but also the effects of the elements to which we have exposed our skin to throughout the years. Because of UV light exposure, wind, and pollutants common in the environment, unprotected skin is the first to show signs of aging and wrinkling.

Elastin is also slowly depleted as we age, another important factor in the reduction of mobility that is associated with age. Aside from changes in our joints, muscles, and brain, the changes that occur in our skin (such as lack of elasticity and flexibility) also reduce our body's mobility.

Large folding areas such as the neck, elbows, and knees experience less ability to move, more so than other body parts. They also are the most prone to showing the early signs of wrinkling in terms of protected areas of skin.

If you are concerned about aging, spend some time with older mentors. By spending time with them, you will have the opportunity to learn from them about how they have accomplished the things that they have. This works very well with people who are still happy and healthy despite their age.

Leave the friends that are upset along and find ones that are positive. Research has shown that smiling and genuine laughter will decrease the appearance of wrinkles and will keep you young looking. So you want to spend your time with friends that will make you smile and laugh, not ones that make you frown!

Alter your makeup to go with your gray hair! Gray hair can alter how your complexion appears, and you should alter your makeup accordingly. Rose shades in your blush and on your lips can offer a lovely warmth to your complexion. Choose a makeup base that is a bit darker then your usual base for added contrast. Use a concealer with a yellow base beneath your eyes and define your brows with an eyebrow pencil. When you use the right makeup, you can make your hair look amazing, and still look younger.

It is very challenging giving full-time care to an aged family member. It is stressful and can take up your whole life. If you need a break, or have a job that needs your attention, consider enrolling the family member in adult daycare. This is a great way to have a few hours of intense working, while your family member has fun with friends.

It is totally understandable to plan for the earliest retirement you can manage, but you need to reserve a savings cushion for your possible medical needs. However, don't neglect to cover yourself for times when your health may degrade or emergencies arise.

As stated, aging is not necessarily a bad thing. You can still live a vibrant and active life as long as you take proper care of your mind and body. Look for ways in your daily activities to incorporate these tips, making your days work in your favor.
