The Changes Of Menopause

Menopause comes with many surprises. Today we will be discussing the physical changes that occur as women go through menopause. Read on to find out what to expect from this organic change.

Changes in the Skin: As we age, wrinkles and sagging skin are awfully common. With menopause, the changes in the skin on our face become more noticeable. With cell disorganization ruling the hypodermis and a diminished production of collagen brought on by aging, our skin shows uneven in texture and tone.

Skin's moisture retention declines with menopause, which increases our chance of developing creases and lines. As the skin is dehydrated, dark circles become more prominent and the eyes appear more sunken in.

Changes in the Breasts: With menopause, all muscles and skin are prone to softening and sagging. Breasts are mainly composed of fat, so with aging the fat cells lose order and deposit themselves in specific spots, diminishing the smoothness and evenness of the breasts.

Fat deposits, while disorganized, are also increased as mammary gland tissue declines. This aids the breast in losing its shape and roundness. As muscles get soft in the pectoral area, the breasts seem to be overly affected by gravity. Because of the dehydration of the skin and its thinning, stretch marks darken and become more visible.

Changes in our Privates: The genitals also become significantly affected with the onset of menopause. Because of uneven fat accumulations, the skin surrounding the vagina is more prone to wrinkling. As collagen and ellastin are slowly depleted, the skin's ability to stretch and flex declines.

The skin surrounding and inside the vagina thins, making it more prone to tearing and breaking. In addition, infections of the vagina and urinary tract are more prevalent in response to diminished immune function and general changes in our reproductive system.

BONUS : The Function and Structure of the Digestive System

The digestive system is a complex set of organs designed for the absorption and assimilation of nutrients and the extraction of energy of food particles. It is comprised of 10 organs that work together toward this goal.

The mouth: Food enters the digestive system through the mouth, where it is chewed and broken into smaller particles. Saliva moistens the food, and the tongue exercises until a bolus is formed and then swallowed.

The esophagus: The bolus enters the esophagus and is transferred into the stomach.

The stomach: In the stomach, hydrochloric acids digest the food particles, breaking them down into more manageable sizes. The liquid mixture that results is called chyme.

The small intestine: Once in the small intestine, the small particles of nutrients in the chyme are absorbed through small vessels. As the intestines go through peristalsis (a series of contractions that help the chyme move down the digestive tract), the food is broken down even more.

The pancreas: At the same time, the pancreas secretes substances into the intestine, counterracting the acidic nature of the stomach liquids. These also aid in the digestion of fat molecules into more manageable fatty acids, also breaking down sugars and proteins into their respective building blocks.

The liver:In the liver, bile is produced to emulsify fat into a more manageable molecule size. As it's treated by the liver, the food is removed of harmful substances and toxins.

Large intestine: Once in the large intestine, the undigested food is treated. It's at this stage that any surplus water is reabsorbed into the system. The resulting residue enters the rectum for elimination.

The kidneys: These are also essential in the detoxification of substances in the body, where blood is filtered and purified from any harmful substances. The waste that remains of said filtering is passed on into the bladder as urine for elimination.
